Unnecessary extension of an artist's ego into the world of blogging. Come, witness my self-indulgence.

Slate the Disco: Inigo

“Inigo is the pseudonym of one-woman wonder Laura McGarrigle, transcontinental Irish songstress currently residing somewhere in Paris. Classically trained on most of the instruments you could wave a pointy stick at, her expertise is felt most strongly as composer and pianist for her innovatively arranged solo material – currently rocking up the internet via Soundcloud. Pitched somewhere between pop convention and post-modern leanings, her subtley leftfield recordings have an open, spacious quality to them whilst still drawing on a whole landscape of influences and instrumentation. With as much focus on texture and tone as straight-up melody, fans of Joanna Newsom and Kate Bush may find a lot to love about her songs and their imaginative, magical atmospheres.”

Single Review: Timesink / Cleopatra - Ill Murray

Words: Wesley Freeman-Smith, orginally printed via Slate the Disco.

Cambridge’s prolific garage-punk slackers Ill Murray are back, this time with added label! Congrats to those lads over there… After putting out a slew of self-released EP’s and extensive, extensive gigging with all the right people, they’ve landed some friends-in-cool-places and all the benefits that brings. Said benefits include:

  1. Vintage double A-Side cassette tape single. When were cassette’s not cool? Never, that’s when.
  2. Being neighbours with (the sadly no more) art-punk outfit Fever Fever, who could blow the brains of anyone with a pulse, and
  3. Belonging to a collective whose manifesto reads like this. Gravy is the perfect diet for any growing lad with a taste for lo-fi, savvy-sloppy indie-punk. Which is just as well, really.
